![]() I have had a few little goes with swordfighting, but what I do best is quarterstaffs. I was taught by my aunt, as she and my uncle are both medieval weapon types, they also met role-playing as Vikings (it's a funny world...).
I prefer a staff to be honest as they are quite versatile, stronger than you would think (theirs are iron-shod) and can also push two or three sword-fighters down at the same time. Swords on the other hand are easier to hold, can and will kill people in a single blow and are, of course, glorified in films. I don't think that I have seen a film involving a quarterstaff since Robin : Prince of Thieves. Oh and by the way, Ninja-Tos are close-up fighting weapons, which is useful because they can be used crouching and also go under the slower katana-blows. I think that they're stabbing weapons too, and because of this they could be loaded with poison and, as such, could stab a samauri once and kill them quickly, instead of a 'real' swordfight, which would probably get a ninja killed due to their weapon being poor on the defence. Katanas on the other hand are slicing weapons and will cut through necks, faces and most types of fruit. But they are slightly unwieldy in close-quarters fighting. They are better on the defence than a Ninja-To, but this is negated by ninjas being more flexible. I would have thought that a Samauri would carry a Wasishaki (spelling?) for close-quarters fights instead and I also believe that they slept with one under the bed for this very reason. Question - Would a ninja carry two Ninja-Tos or one and a tanto? Oh yes and two handed swords are not really recommended unless you are incredibly strong and have had experience with a different sword style before. I would personally recommend a cutlass to start with, because they are quite good for learning and will also open up career opportunities in the field of piracy. |
