Actually that would be the 20th century, they even locked Alan Turing (the guy that deciphered the Enigma Code) up in an asylum for being a homosexual, altough that could ahve been a conspiracy theory aswell. Anyway, he killed himself by poisoning an apple and eating it... or so the story goes.
