It's a date. And it was only significant for Julius Caesar, because that's when he was killed (supposedly a soothsayer had been warning him to be careful on that day).

Edit: Actually it's two or three days. Ides are about the middle of a month. I think Caesar was killed on the 15th or 16th, so it would about fit.
