![]() If you want to start at sol, wait through the intro movie and you will see a menu with 5 or six choices. Three of them are starting locations. The default is up in Alliance space, with a Saker Mk III. You need to use that start to get the first couple Hardcoded missions. (which are well worth the money if you can manage them) Another starts you on Earth in Sol (loc 0,0) in an Eagle. (or is it an Eagle Mk III) The other starts you at Lave in a Cobra Mk III like in the origional Elite's. This is actually the one I would recomend until you have gotten used to the game.
You could also do this just by hitting 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 while the intro is playing, instead of hitting esc. to get past it. Trade between Leesti and Diso (the 2 systems immediately down and to the left from Lave) Buy manufactured goods of various types at the one and raw materials at the other. They are both relatively peaceful, but with enough available action to get you started. And directly down and to the left from them is a fourth system which has an anarchy gov and makes an assured combat practice system with tons of realatively easy enemies. Tho they can still kill you when they swarm. A sugestion would be to pause time right after you jump in, and select the system you want to escape to, so that you can jump out fast when you are almost dead. I use the more difficult default start, but then I also fly on manual, and only get the auto pilot when I want to fly the same route several times in a row without having to be at the computer the whole time. If you are having trouble running FFE, then get the java version, J2FFE which will run directly and without needing dosbox. It also fixes most of the bugs, tho admitedly sound is worse. P.S. They actually used real stars for most of the ones within a couple hundred lightyears, and actualy put them where astronomers think they are in relation to sol. Tho they did rename many of them to fit the earlier games in the series. |
