For beginners: try the Facece - Veques route. It's good because it's quite profitable, and you can get lot's of points for carrying packages for impire.

And you have Archernar very close for all hight tech stuff to buy.

Actually, EFE is Shareware and not Freeware. That D. Braben's "Encounters" company hasn't released the game beyond the shareware at Eliteclub.

I became a serious 'Frontier-head' on my amiga years ago, and only started playing Elite FFE last year. I found this thread really usefull in getting it all working properly for me(with sound/music/fullscreen etc)

I've loved these games from the very first time a friend showed me Elite on his BBC computer! And i'm still playing FFE between other games now.

I'd say the only dissapointment i've got about it(and Frontier also) is that compared to the origonal game its much easier to find ways of making loads of money. It doesn't take too long to set yourself up with a pretty good ship.

At the momment i'm in an Asp - great all round ship, but i also gave the 'Galactica Falcon' a go that the guy posted a save file about in that thread above. He even wrote a story to fit it in to the game timeline!

Will we ever see an Elite4? I hope so as i've never found the other pretenders to the crown as addictive as the Elite games(talking about the X,X2 games/privateer etc) - they all look way better, but thats about it?

Yes, I still play this quite a bit, but it can be extremely frustrating until you get a good ship up and running. You'll be dying a lot. One second you're speeding through to the nearest orbital station on time-compression, then next you've been jumped by 4-5 pirates. Even with only 5 MW beam lasers hitting an unshielded hull, you're dead in seconds. Although on the flip side, you really feel you've earned your imperial juggernaught of death when you can finally afford it, and with a few hundred tons worth of shielding not a lot can touch you.

Huh! Unless you have a good fight method you'll die often and the game will make you feel exhausted! It's not necessary to improve you'r ship with a tons of shields, Man! I fly my Viper Defence MK II with no shields and for example Imperial Cruiser is nothing more than just a duck wich I can shoot imediatelly (It's bigger and more powerfull but My VDMKII is FASTER man) and that's the point of it- Have a nice day Commander!

i find it rather stupid that an interplanetary shuttle has NO CABINS, and therefore you cannot fly people to their destinations.

:help: hmm....its a good game but i just cant find my way around..before i can complete a trade in even a highly policed area im blasted by pirates. this prevents me from getting money, which prevens me from getting a new ship with fuel in it...i dont even know where to buy extra fuel for my ship, which forces me to attempt a trade, which leads to me ge3tting blasted by pirates AGAIN

nevermind i got it now, and have been doing ok...i just LOVE how the game screws you over suddenly..i was in a viper D craft with a full cargo of robots heading for SOL, when i suffer a misjump into an unknown place, so i jump to SOL...and on the way tomars high I RUN OUT OF FUEL AND HAVE TO RELOAD A PREVIOUS GAME because NOONE RESPONDS TO DISTRESS SIGNALS!!! :eeeeeh:
