Hi. Does anyone have a map of the Barrier, I'm looking for the last pressure plate, and I can't find it. A walkthrough tells me to look for a hidden area, but I can't find it. Please help

I assume it's the southwestern pressure plate you can't find? If that is the case, you need to check the hallway leading to the area where you insert the four lionhead keys. Somewhere along that hallway, there is a secret door facing south that leads to a teleporter and the last pressure plate. Look at the walls for shimmering.

There - I finished the game with the sorcerer using magic almost exclusively to battle enemies.

My end of game stats:

190 Hitpoints 1700 Spellpoints

Magic Skills:
Earth: 10 Wind: 6
Fire: 9 Water: 10
Lightning: 10 Flesh: 8
Void: 1

Total Spell levels gained: 47

Combat Skills:

Hacking: 2 Thrusting: 2
Slashing: 10 Ranged: 2

Total Combat levels gained: 12

I found playing as a mage character a lot more fun and easier than playing a fighter, especially in the endgame once you get the mana regeneration amulet. However: The game is massively biased towards Earth magic for one simple reason: You can aquire an armour (Banded Ironroot Armor) that allows you to cast Earth spells at half the mana cost early on, meaning that you should focus on leveling Earth Magic and keep on hitting enemies with Iron Fist. It's nearly as damaging as the Laughing Skull and costs less than half the mana with the Ironroot Armor on, which is without doubt the best armour in the game if you want to be an offensive spellcaster in Anvil of Dawn.

I found Fire magic to be totally useless but was very happy that I leveled Water and Air magic later in the game. Reflections of the Lake spell saved my bacon in the warlord's stronghold and the Levitation Spell (Forget the name) was also very useful for some puzzles. Lightning and Flesh I also leveled, lightning for an the Roaring Column spell and Flesh for the healing spell, both of which came in handy numerous times, especially with the holy branch from the tree.

Void magic is useless to level since the spells suck, but it saved my sanity on the very last level. *spoiler* In the invisible maze, you don't actually have to figure out the maze to finish the game. Just cast Ritual of Unmaking at the invisible walls and they'll disappear. It costs a ton of mana, but I'd stashed enough Yang symbols to fully replace my mana every time I cast it. 3 or 4 castings later, I had punched enough holes in invisible walls to finish the maze without having to map out the damn thing by hand. Please note: This trick does NOT work with the Wand of Unmaking you can also find.

In conclusion, while magic seems very weak initially in the game, it will become VERY powerful as soon as you get a few magic levels under your belt, and playing the sorcerer is highly recommended. Just be sure to set your initial Power level high, so you get a high rate of mana regeneration - Waiting around for it to happen by itself sucks.

Damn awesome game. Props to the developers.

If you use the freece-spell first and then use the spell where torrents of ice appear out of the ground (the spell you get in the waterfall from the mysterious looking guy) The waterfall spell will make 3 Times the damage it causes usually.

Sorry for my bad english ^^

Well, I bought and played this game when it first came out, but I must have done something wrong: I didn't like it at all. It was just boring. For some reason I kept on playing (nothing better to do, I guess), but it didn't get any better.
I can't even explain why I didn't like it, because I just can't remember any details, it was that boring. I think the fights were tedious and all the same, and, well... you too rarely found interesting items like a better weapon, I think that was another reason.
I can't agree to the review at all; but then, maybe I should download it and try it out once more...

I completely agree, I read the review and became excited, then I just downloaded the game, and I became very impressed with the first graphics. But at the first battle I was shocked, I was expecting something turn based not something like wolfenstein 3d!!! BORING battle. And RPG without a good battle system = half trash (the other half is plot, immersion, etc..)

Use DosBox to run the game.

Then you probably won't like Lands of Lore 1 and Eye of the Beholder Trilogy. These games use real-time battle system too. For me, it's the other way around, I would have stopped playing Anvil of Dawn very early in the game had the battle system is turn-based.

Hi, recently I started playing Anvil of Dawn again. I used to have the CD and played it about 7-8 years back, but I got stuck somewhere quite early and gave up. Now, I'm up to the Temple of the Moon.

I went to the Reed Plains to get the Ritual of Unmaking spell. When I cast it on doors and such, sometimes items from my chests disappear and appear as loot on the floor of the door I destroyed. If I do it again, it duplicates the loot i.e. they exist in two locations at once. If you pick it up in one place, and pick it up again in another place, the first one disappears from my inventory.

Anyone experience such a thing? From what I read on a AoD hint file, it says using Unmaking on doors, pillars etc. gives "useful items".

Moreoever, when my inventory is really full of rocks and potions and whatnot (I'm a real pack rat), and I mean like 100 rocks and 50 potions, when I enter new areas sometimes the game keeps getting errors. When I drink a lot of the potions and clear off the inventory, no more error. However, when I Unmake a few doors, sometimes I get the abovementioned chest items popping up on the ground bug, and subsequent Unmakings where the destroyed door leaves loot, the game crashes.

I almost completed this game but whenever I walk towards the Anvil after talking to the Warlord, my game hangs with an error "Unable to open credits.txt". My AoD is from Abandonia so it is missing many files I guess. Can anyone with the CD version put up their credits.txt for download? I believe it is in the data folder. Otherwise it could be in the RES.007 file in the Data folder.
Thanks!
