If it was sold once then released to public domain, it can be placed on abandonia. Game is freeware only if it was released as freeware in first place.

i know what you will say its still on the ea site but its no longer for download and ea don't support anymore.
cd key check by gamespy is gone.
gamespy master server is shutdown.

the bf1942 community needs new players to play bf1942 and only way to get new players is to let this be free for download.

if you now start bf1942 press internet to join a server your computer will freeze lockup that's because gamespy master server is gone its known bug in bf1942 but the community made new master server that fix the freeze.

There are 3 ways you can get on the new master server.


1 do the easy installer works on origin or cd done in 10 secs http://team-simple.org/download/batt...atch_v1.61.exe



2 manually install of the new bf1942.exe.

if cd version on 64bit windows go to
C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 1942

if cd version on 32 bit windows go to
C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 1942

after that install you no longer need a cd to play BF1942 and have full hd res on BF1942.

after that install you no longer need to login on origin to play BF1942 and have full hd res just make desktop shortcut from that new bf1942.exe



3 edit host file {its not recommended to do this if ip of the master server change you have to edit hosts file again}

My guess is that it's around 300MB, anyways the game can be downloaded from other sources as it's free. Good to know about this trick.
