"the sissy version of speed"??

Caffeine is at least a naturally-occuring substance. Speed is some concoction of god-knows-what from underneath your kitchen sink.

Drano, anyone?

@SixApes:

I did, and I agree with what you said entirely. Therefore, I didn't feel the need to contradict it. Moderation = k:

but the effects of caffeine like in coffee are the same as the effects of speed, except much much less intense. Yes, coffee and caffeine are natural, but not the stuff they're selling nowadays. The caffeine in that coffee is mostly added, of course, because people become more and more dependent on it. Caffeine/coffee isn't good for your health--in fact, it contributes to a number of different health problems.

*wonders if you've ever actually used speed*

Sure, they're alike, but you'd have to chug like 50 shots of espresso in five minutes just to get anywhere near the same effect.

Even then, the health hazards of caffeine compared to speed are nothing.

Everything can be hazardous to your health if you don't use it in proper moderation. Including water, which I believe was mentioned here. Chug enough water, and you dilute the sodium in your body, and boom, dead.

Of course, you have a much higher chance hurting your body using speed in a short period of time than you could ever have drinking coffee over a long period of time. And that's if you used either in moderation. Use them in excess, you still have a moderate chance of hurting your body in the long term with caffeine, whereas you will almost certainly hurt yourself severely using speed.

Not much of a coffee person, can't really stand the smell or the taste, although where I go to college a lot of people drink it, it's funny cause when it gets really cold like below -30 degrees celsius, there's like a huge line to buy coffee at this one place one campus.

@ taikara
I wasnt implying you hadnt read.... it was directed at some of the more intense posters....

@ Flight

Don't they sell Organic Coffee where you live? I dont drink cheap coffee that has chemicals pumped into it. Its well known that they do terrible things to generic coffee. Most of what is in generic coffee isnt really coffee, its flavored roasted caffinated chips of wood. Organic thats all i buy......... folgers taste terrible to me, i havent had that stuff in a long time..

****

And as far as addiction is concerned*

I've known pleanty of coffee "addicts". If you really want to call them addicts. Its all in their minds. Weak minds make addictive personalities. Its hard to deny the things that we enjoy. If we are hungry we have an impulse to consume food in order to subside the cravings of our body. By that measure, people can become what is known as a compulsive eater. It has been the practice of ancient spiritualist to abnegate that impulse of hunger for a period of time in order to cleans and strengthen the mind. This was done with the foresight of bridging harmony to the inner body extending it to the outer body.

After returning from their denial of sustainance, those same spiritualist would drink from caffinated beverages. Not coffee per say, but rather an infusion of milk, butter and black teas known as Po Cha ( Tibetan Butter Tea ). Black tea has about half of the caffine as American Coffee but regaurdless...... I think I agree with those that say..... live a little.......

Strengthen your mind, so that it might break free..... there are no addictions but the ones we hold within our deepest desires.

I would like to point out that many of the positive aspects of coffee were listed at the first page of this thread. Reading the previous posts can be beneficial sometimes..

As an addition, here's more: "Finnish researchers found people who drank at least 3-4 cups of coffee a day had a nearly 30% lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes."

One source among many: http://my.webmd.com/content/article/83/97794.htm

I was in downtown this afternoon after free-climbing and found a cafeteria (an Italian cafeteria is NOT a Starbucks-like, btw) really nice, where I drank one of the best coffees I've ever had. I think it comes from Brazil. It was so creamy and intense...I think I'll visit that place quite often in the future (read:tomorrow ).

I've read through the last posts, and personally think that comparing coffee and speed is like comparing an headache to being run over by a truck.

A coffee won't forbid you to sleep. A coffee won't be sniffed (unless you're a weirdo). A coffee doesn't taste like plastic (except maybe McDonald's). A coffee won't cost you 40 $ per gram.

I know who wrote that didn't mean to say they give the same effects in quantity, but for sure I have to say coffee's quality is far above that speed crap.

Coffee r0x0rz! :Titan:

hahaha

You know I didn't mean it that way, of course. I wanted to point out that caffeine is addictive, and bad for your health. It's much better to have coffee than some other stuff out there. I never heard of Organic, though. Probably because I don't drink coffee anyway, but I'm sure it's better than the ultra processed Starbuck's.
Just my $.02
