In tongue-in-cheek mangas Europeans are easy to recognize: all blonde and carry a rose all the time and smell it. No seriously, I think this blunt characterization of personae by means of a couple of easily recognizable conventional traits, may derive from traditional kabuki in the end.

Wtf? Anyway, I don't watch anime or read manga or whateverz. But I do play some Japanese GAMS and I can already say that Solid Snake and his counterpart Crusty Cake are both manly anime dudes. (They have little graphic novel thangs in the manuals)
