Our previous one managed to offend the US and France at the same time, and our new one managed to insult Premier Balkenende from the Netherlands and the entire leadership of the DR Congo... all in but a few months time.

![]() That's still no where near the level of tactlessness that Berlusconi has reached. He is the master of making offensive comments, you might even say that he has reached perfection (only in that aspect, you understand. He's rather lacking in all other aspects).

![]() Prince Philip would win that contest hands-down - he only gets away with it because he's got no power whatsoever so they just ignore him.

![]() Ah yes, Berlusconi is a master, but at least his comments are in the form of jokes, the same can't be said about my fellow countrymen, Belgium is still researching Humour and is only spending 2 gold coins per turn on research.
Another amazingly politically incorrect figure is Ken Livingstone, mayor of London.

For government talk: * A bit over 50% of voters choose Bush, so not all Americans are the same and not all of them approve Bush’s politics. * During recent months, less and less Americans support bush’s foreign policy. (as more and more bags are coming from Iraq) * Today government is facing worst deficit in history, and Bush is already 5th year cutting back on education to support military development. So as for geography, soon kids will not know we are living on earth. (This might not be true, thanks to Hollywood And as for talk about people: Well, this is mine 10th year of living in US, so I can tell that I learned a bit about people I live with here. A lot of people are OK, but there is a large population that fits perfectly in gregor’s definition of Americans. Couple things that are cool in this country: Education: everyone can attend collages, and have education, and most business support their employees education. (my company is paying my education) People are more open to talk about. – In Germany, you can live whole life next door to someone, and never properly met them, while here people are more likely to come and meet you as soon as you come to new apartment/house. I don’t have much time to write more, as I’m on training, but I will contribute a bit more to this topic later… |

![]() Gregor's post was rather inflammatory. I won't say it's not true about some Americans, but is it really necessary to use a negative blanket generalization like that in a community that includes quite a few Americans?
The truth is, we could make negative generalizations like that about the population of every country in the world. It just so happens that most of the world hates Americans right now. In a few years, the rest of the world might be hating some other country and loving Americans... you never know. Anubis, I know you said that many Americans could be like that, not all, but I really think Gregor's post was better left dead. And as for government policies, it should be mentioned that our economy sucks right now, and it's really difficult to get and keep a decent job. Sigh. |

![]() Taikira,
You should ask your self on what people gregor based his post on. Most of Americans that people in other countries of the world have met are there with army, and we all know what kind of people will sign army contract now days. (or completely insane person, all outlaws if given option, and poor people who are not able to find a decent job, or have not school or any skills) I know it's kind of bad generalization, but in many cases it proves to be correct. As for economic situation, people choose 4 more years of terror over 4 years of prosper economics. People choose this government; we should not forget that... It was kind of funny that part of Michigan, known for it’s conserve orientation was hit by business going oversees, and that all those employees with GWB stickers on the car lost their jobs (A lot of them in their 50’s). A lot of companies older then 100 years have moved their production to China, Mexico etc… |

![]() Everyone's been hit by the economic slump recently, the main problem is NICs (Newly Industrialized Countries) like China, Mexico and Brazil offering cheaper labour and reduced costs of finished goods so companies in more economically developed countries are forced to move elsewhere or fail.
The weak dollar has actually benefited America in all this as it makes their produce cheaper and more competitive abroad and makes imports from other countries more expensive in the USA, which benefits their current account deficit (it's still huge though). I had an economics exam this morning about all this stuff |
