Anyway - I know Monkey Island outsold Maniac Mansion by a mile (for the PC), but most C64 gamers will agree that Zak was their first real adventure game (And that they love Maniac Mansion) - then again MI was never released for C64...

Maniac Mansion was two years earlier than Monkey Island and the first SCUMM-game(in fact, SCUMM even owes its name to Maniac Mansion). It was a huge success and even inspired a tv-show (though one has to admit that "Pirates of the Carribean" does owe more to Monkey Island than to the Disneyland-attraction... ).
