They are the disasters, , for monorail a UFO land over the track and it´s blowed off by the X-Com, in water there are submarines(i saw them but never saw an attack over a ship), a smaller UFO can colided with your road units, a zepelin crash over an airport and if a plane try to land in these airport before removed, u will got a plane crash

Anyway, i didn´t know of the X-com HQ

The submarines don't do anything, they were put at Microprose's request to link with another game they were marketing at the time.
And UFOs don't just land on monorail, they also like railway and maglev :P though they only show up later in the game.

Planting trees also increases your rating with nearby cities. Weird task for a transport tycoon :P

Not really. Transporting has a big effect on the environment (not just destroying nature and poluting). I live near a railroad and I can hear every train that passes, were I any closer to the tracks I couldn't even sleep at night. Trees are a sort of a sound barier (they reduce the noise) making it more pleasent to live near by.

I live next to a railroad AND a highway and I don't complain :P
