but seriously what do you mean by the internet shopping? how the hell is that related to your birthcountry or identity?
as the fith horseman said any one with half a mind could find more information

Using basic information like the name and birthdate location of an individual somebody could dig further and exploit the fact that people bank and shop online to find more detailed personal information.

we leave bits and peices of information all over the place with out realising.

is it worth making an issue of it? not really as somebody mentioned before just use false info.

While it is true that identify theft does occur, there is a point when caution becomes paranoia.

I could walk down the street and get mugged... does that mean that I am never going to leave my house?

The odds of being a victim to identity theft go down if you try top be conscientious and responsible when on the net. Like - stay away from shady sites, keep your computer clean from viruses, keyloggers, etc, don't be gullible with scams, etc.

It can happen to anybody, though my assumption is that the thieves prefer the easy targets - less work for them. Or they do something massive like breach a bank or medical clinic's records system. Using a forum registration with a few bits of info to try and steal an identity would seem rather futile - who's to say that information is even factual?

You give much more detailed and potentially damaging information out when you do any sort of online shopping. Or even offline for that matter, if you use anything other than cash to buy things. Even your mail has more detailed information, and think about how many hands that passes through.

Use your judgement - if you don't feel comfortable, don't do it.

You don't even need their name or birthdate to begin with.
If they used same username anywhere else and ever posted one of their e-mail adresses in public, they already left themselves wide open. Getting any other information about that person they might have left online becomes a matter of research time only.

I hope our new friend here is aware of this.

And as a side note. Peace01, did you register a different account on the site before? Because having two separate accounts is against the rules.

Put on that list every time you ever provided that info, school, biblio, work, whatevers and whatnots, hotels, any time you gladly provided that info to complete strangers.
Don't forget to add the times your parents had to give detailed info about you when you were a small child.

You may have nightmares now.

Why give itwhen it isn't nesacary there is no legitmate nee dhere so As my point the information shopuld be optional not required as it is now. If you want to give it out that is fine but don't tell me I have to give out information that isn't nesacary. Location can be found from Logging isp.
Name and birth date is unnessacary. WIthmy name and location someone can findmy address in the phone book with a country records search they can find me from my birth date. Why give one more person information the don't need. All yur personal information should be on a Need to know basis and frankluyy the site administrator doesn't need to know.
And, becayuse they made it mandaroty i gave false information.
the proper action is for them to switch this information to optional where it belongs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No I did not I did try to register the same account witha different email but i never recieved a email as it does eat some email from some sites. So I register the exact same name with the new email.
Btw, you still have no need for my name or birth dtate and it won't keep me from habving two accounts if i choose to, As firo location ISP tells you that. My point is and has been this information should be made optional you ahve absolutely no eed for it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The point is and was that the information has no bussiness being mandatory!
It should bve optional. That is where you guys have it wrong. If I don't want to reveal my name location or birth date that is mshould be my choice. It isn't nesacary and doesn't help teh site in the least to know my name or birth date. and if they want my location they can get it from the og of my isp number. If you want to give out the inforamation more powerr to you!!

kuger- lol

peace01..
* please don't double, and don't ever consider tripple posting again.

*ammount of exclamation marks in your post doesn't make it sound anything more serious, more like vice versa

*we know that it shouldn't be necessary. the site maker wanted to add a cool feature so you could find buddies who have the same interest like you around your location, but i believe it'd be removed as neccessary later on, the site just stopped in mid development because there were some issues with people who officially own this site (it's basically bunch of lazy <ehm>)

seriously by replies you can see that everybody took this topic half-seriously and understands what you mean to say, there's no need to go like !!!!!!!11111111111111111111111OENOENEONEOnononeone cosinus(0)

Yes peace01, I can read all your personal info, but seriously, do you really think that me and the other Admins are interested about them? Abandonia has more than 51000 members, we have a life and when we are here we try to help...not to act like thieves.

The problem is that we can't change things...not now.
Insert fake info if you want.

And guys stop newbie-bashing please, he's here to enjoy games like us...hopefully.
