I thought openoffice can run on windows too? And doesn't most of the linux software have windows versions, I may be wrong at this, but that's my perception at least...

Yup. Openoffice rocks, and lots of other unix programs get ported to windows. The point still stands that the OS is free, and the windows (and OSX) ports tend to lag behind the unix versions for obvious reasons.

Linux is now just as easy to use as Windows with most distributions now come with a desktop.

@ Tulac
Yes most Linux tools & games also can be used with Windows, but I don't see the point.

@ little_fish
More people use Linux than you think, why pay good money on a operating system that has a lot of problems with it.

@ Danny252
The more people that use Linux the better, the reason Linux is so secure is a lot of people work on improving it due to it being open-sorce, Windows not being open-source means it cannot be improved and in the end Windows will die from this.

Um...what? Are you contesting that WindowsXP is identical to Windows 3.1?

Windows 3.1 is a lot better than XP as there is a lot less rubbish in Windows 3.1, My nan got a computer that came with XP and it was so damn slow in the end I had to change it to Windows 98.

If for some reason you have to use Windows then use Windows 95-98 as XP is not worth it's price.

Most of you don't know but if you buy a computer without Windows XP you save about ?100 - 200.

's still a lot cheaper than buying XP standalone, though obviously not as cheap as getting a Linux distro. It's generally better for gaming than either 98 or Linux though, assuming you want to play recent titles. And a brand new PC will be plenty capable of running XP at a reasonable speed unless it's a bit crappy, in which case you're getting what you paid for if you skimp on hardware.

The day I switch to Linux is never.
It's soooo stupid.
It's worse than Unix, sure it's faster and more stable, but c'mon, I can't do half the stuff I can do in Windows.
