![]() OK, finally I got my computer to work, for a while at least! (7,9,13)
Like I said, I come from a town called Patreksfjör?ur. But I live in the city, Reykjavík. So I have pics from both places. PATRÓ Patró, seen from the mountain. I have NO idea how the photographer got up there. I thought it was impossible Patró, seen from the "Upper street". There are the Upper street and the Lower street. Two main streets that go through the town. I lived by the upper street REYKJAVÍK Reykjavík city centre, seen from a huge church called Hallgrímskirkja. Perlan, or The Pearl. It's some sort of exhibition thingy now, I think. In the round thing is a great, EXPENSIVE restaurant. My old school, the house with the tower. Half of the house is a school (about 25-30 students in the whole school), and the other belongs to the Cathedral. Behind the school you can see Tjörnin, a lake in the centre of the town. Tjörnin, the lake. It's disgusting, actually. Duckshit everywhere. The water is actually GREEN. I wouldn't want to fall into that! In the winter we can skate on it! That's really fun. When I went to the school I often took my skates with me! :P The cathedral. It's in the centre of Reykjavík. I confirmated there. It's really beutiful. Next to it is the famous Althingi, the parlament. There is some really interesting fact about it, but I can't remember. I'll let you know when I do. Laugavegurinn, the main shopping street in Reykjavík. On that pic you can see my second fav bar/club, Nellý's. It's really cool and they don't ask for ID's! Hermes, the mascot of my all time favorite bar, Stúdentakjallarinn. Located in the same house as my boyfriend used to live! Not far to go B) Inside Stúdentakjallarinn. Stúdentakjallarinn means the Student Cellar! Really nice place. Quite international, as the campus for foreign students is in the same house. I don't think the bartenders even speak icelandic :P Well, that's it! |

![]() Ok, some pics from my hometown, Kiruna:
![]() Where I'm at, for those who doesnt know. ![]() This is from the ice-hotel. ![]() The mountain in the background would be the ore mine, the second biggest in the world, or something like that. ![]() A snow sculpture, made during the anual snowfestival, no doubt. ![]() Our church, deemed the most beutiful in Sweden in fact. ![]() Another pic of the church. ![]() This is the cityhall. ![]() ![]() This is from Esrange, the space center of Europe, I think. Its just outside of town. |

![]() ![]() My school entrance. Heavy big doors for firetrucks next to that a smaller (main) entrance. Bulletproof glass usually guarded by guards and police behind that is another door (first you pass this security desk inside) and as you can see, high wall with a fence on top. Frequent terror-drills too (lock doors and everybody under the tables) Last year the school was evaquated twice, and cancled for half a day due to a mysterious package near the door.

![]() Told you already
Antwerp, North Belgium. Since a year or so there is a new radical group of muslims called the AEL (arab european league) They are led by a man who claims he used to be in the Hezbollah (or Hiz'bull'ah) its, according to the US and Israel, a terrorist group. But ofcoarse the rest of the world calls them anything ranging from Militants to Freedomfighters. Anyway... he claims he was a member of the Hezbollah and now he and his group 'fight for the rights of muslims in belgium and freedom for palestine and Iraq' Their protests usually turned out violently. Broken cars and shopwindows, police having to come to calm them down. The police has arrested some highstanding members quite a few times but could never keep them in jail (politicians were afraid of an escalation so they pressured Antwerp to release them) Now they have seemingly calmed down. However a lot of jews go to the school I learn in... so it has received serveral threats (since the foudnation of the AEL) The AEL once issued a statement that if their leader would be killed they would seek revenge on serveral highstanding jewish citizens. It is no surprise that the ultra right wing plitical group called the Vlaams Blok (reffered to as 'nazi's in suits' by the popular series: "The West Wing") actually won the previous elections (but since they are banned from forming a government they did not win, eventhough they got the majority of the votes) Now opinion polls show the Vlaams Blok has 44% of the votes, while the leading party now has 40% in the entire country. Antwerp is now the Vlaams Blok's base (majority of the votes for Vlaams Blok come from antwerp) and thus it is possible that the next mayor of Antwerp will be from the Vlaams Blok (the ban on Vlaams Blok can't be held against such an overwhelming ammount of votes) So now the jewish community has the neonazis on one side (oddly enough the 'neonazis' are trying to gain support from the jewish community by supporting israel and portraying the rest of the Belgian Government as anti jewish... which is basically true) and the AEL on the other side. And now out school is a fortress. EDIT: oh yes and they have a political party aswell... RESIST or something. Needless to say they aren't getting a lot of votes. They renovated their dutch site into something more peacefull. But their english site is still the same AEL Sadly the texts there aren't as radical as on the old dutch one. But worst was their forum. It used to be open to all... then they changed it to members only (and these guys have a political party!) What I read in there surpases all. They said things I expected a neonazi to say. Bah... I should have taken some pictures of the forum... too late now oh and here is what they did to 'commemorate the Intifada' 16 years of Intifada, hurrah

![]() Wow, sounds nasty, my school has just installed new keypad locks on all doors and has bought better gates but that's more to keep out people who want to kidnap the students then worry about terrorism.
EDIT: 500 posts! A Game Wizzard is me! |

![]() It almost sounds like Belgium is on the edge of civil war
I'm happy to live in Denmark. Must be one of the most peacefull countrys in the world. No guards at school. No heavy doors with big locks. No reason to be afraid of kidnappings. We haven't got any terror attacks yet. I suppose we are very lucky! I hope it gets better in Belgium. I think it is a little scarry, that the nazi parties gets that many votes. I don't hope a new nazi country is on the way |
