That would be because the files in the ISO cellar are just that part of an ISO. They aren't meant to be extracted into the installed game. They are meant to be all downloaded and turned into an ISO of the original CD, from there you can install the game (more then likely in Dosbox).

I'm not too familiar with ISO files and how to install them... would you please quickly outline what I need to do, step-by-step in order to install the game with sound, please?
I have the lion.zip from this site, and the files from the ISO cellar which include lion.rar, lion.r00-lion.r03 and lion.sfv... so... what should I do from there? thanks for your advice

Unpack lion.rar to get the CD image.
Mount the CD image in DOSBox.
Install the game in DOSBox using the CD image.
Done.
After you close DOSBox, every next time you want to play the game you have to just mount the CD image in DOSBox first.

1. done, extracted to c:\games\lion
2. done, DOSBox says: MSCDEX installed, drive D is mounted as c:\games\lion\lion.cue
3. by typing what? I have no idea how to tell it to 'install'. I can't find that command in the DOSBox readme file
p.s. there is no install.exe file!

There's no built-in DOSBox command for that. Every game has its' own unique installation process.

Check all COM, EXE and BAT files in the root of the CD. It's not unusual for the installer to be named differently.
The game manual probably explains which executable starts the installation procedure.

There aren't any COM, EXE or BAT files that I can see, but then again I'm not sure how to view the root of the CD

also... the manual says 'installation instructions are on a separate card in the Lion Box' which I can't find online. Useful... not

Okay then. Mount the image in Windows and search for any COM, EXE and BAT files there. Note them down.

There is a setup.exe on the CD (I just downloaded it to check). Make sure you have the CD and your normal C drive mounted (like C:\oldgames as your C drive for Dosbox). Type;

D:
cd setup

And the setup should run, it will install it onto your mounted C drive (which is why you should mount your C drive as a folder where you keep your old games so that it isn't installing onto your real C:\ drive.)

As Fifth said if you want to play the CD version of the game you are going to need to remount it every time you want to play.

Ok, now it says 'unable to change to: setup'
This is my mount code:

mount d c:\games
d:

then I typed cd lion to go to d:\lion, then I typed cd setup and got that message. Am I mounting it wrong? Can anyone suggest a mount code that would work?

I'd like to add that all the files from the ISO cellar are the following:
lion.ccd
lion.sfv
lion.img
lion.cue
lion.sub

I think I'm missing something. It doesn't look like a whole CD's contents to me but I definately downloaded all the files from the ISO cellar and those 5 files are all that's contained

You weren't even looking on the right drive this entire time.
1. Mount your oldgames directory as the C drive
2. IMGMOUNT the cd image as the D drive
3. Change to the D drive
4. Look for the installer now. dir is your friend, especially when used as dir *.exe , dir *.com or dir *.bat (or you could just use Norton Commander in your copy of DOSBox and filter the display to only show EXE, COM and BAT files; IIRC it also has a file search function)
