There are a lot of members from last year that you don't see around anymore. I suppose it could be that they have new names since many had to re-register.

Nothing to worry about. The stats will build themselves back up. Being the number one abandonware site is an accomplishment. You do have to wonder how much the bots affected the stats of old. Seemed they were coming from everywhere for a while.

I find this interesting. Very balanced representation of users from around the globe. Brazil caught me by surprise. I always thought Abandonia had a very European/North American flavor.

From Alexia.com ...
Abandonia.com users come from these countries:

United States11.3%
Brazil6.4%
Poland5.1%
Croatia4.8%
Germany4.8%

I'm quite optimistic (as always I know :amused.
The new site layout brought us many problems, at first it was really ugly and buggy, now with the help of members, with suggestions and with lot of work, the site is improving everyday. I don't want to say that now it's ok and better than the old one. There is still lot to do.
A new colour layout could change things, the old site was a warm place (colours really made the difference). If we are able to fuse the features of the new one with the warm style of the old one...well, we will be at the top!
Let me remember guys about this data: from about 10000 members reached in four years to about 31000 members since the new site layout (some months).

But still we are dropping... I guess the time has come that the online games made abandonware somewhat obscelete.

On the other hand, it's good for the comunity, because there will be much less ignorant leeches, who just want to play games, but don't respect them at all. This will also mean, that less and less people will consider abandonware/oldware as an alternative to new games and that probably more producers will start thinking about releasing their software as freeware, or at least stop actively protecting it (at least that's my wishful thinking).

also there were no major titles put on site lately. But there were some taken off in that little esa incident...

We are in 2008. Soon games like Half life, Far cry, Halo... will be the ones with oldies status. While these that are now "Abandoned ones" will become Antiques

I think we have a couple of things going on here. First the oldwarez list is badly in need of updating. I think there are more than a few abandoned titles that are not on the list.

Second we are entering a time where the face of abandonware is changing. The newly abandoned games as determined by the "period of ESA protection" guidelines are coming from the period of the mid nineties. 1993 and later. By that time multimedia and CDROM had taken a firm hold on the gaming industry. The majority of new abandonware is going to be too large to be hosted on Abandonia with the current status quo. There are still many games from prior to 1993 that can be added to the site but few of them are going to be considered a "major draw".

I think we are going to have to be content with a thinning of the potential audience unless Abandonia in some way wants to address the game size issue. The number of us old-schoolers seems to be dropping. I still wish they would "dress up" the ISO cellar a little more.

I would call both Starflight and Savage Empire major titles. I doubt we will see Half Life or Halo as abandonware any time soon.

Personaly I would like the title "dedicated to classic dosgames" to be changed to "dedicated to classic PCgames", and if Abandonia wishes to "walk with present time" that would have to be done, soon some games that weren't made for DOS will become abandonware, we have some on the site already (e.g. Re-Volt, The Sting...).
