Disregard the last post. Apparently I was having trouble reading the previous comments. Sorry!

Some people apparently don't like the approach taken by the authors.
Can't say I blame them, can't say I don't.

When I first saw screen shots of this game in game mags, I was skeptical of all the raves about it. Then I tried it because it came bundled with Xcom in a pack I bought. Turns out, it's addicting in the same way as Civilization (and eats hours like Civ too). You just can't stop playing...one...more...turn! :tai: The graphics are kind of cutesy, but I guess it's part of its charm. Makes me want to check out the MaM series.

Thank you/Damn you Abandonia for putting it up here. k:

I don't really feel like I'm very good at the game. I'm pretty bad at strategy because I get too focused on one thing. Are there any strategy guides or walkthroughs out there? I checked Gamefaqs.com but they didn't have one and they are usually pretty good. Maybe just some tips to share? Thanks.

For homm 1 as well as homm 2 it is very important to own as much castles as possible. also i advise to use many heroes. one will do battle (the most experenced), some will carry the armies to the "battle heroes" and others will just move arround fast to take over the mines.

faster units make your hero move farther, so be sure to check thier speed.

Dragons are the most powerfull unit - they cause inbalance in this first part. later they fixed it a bit.

be aggressive and attack quite soon in game to get more castles - they bring you money.

when attacking a castle use flying units. they can prevent the archers from shooting (also a usefull feature in other battles).

if the oponent is too strong try to weaken it first (do as much damage as possible) with a more crappy hero and then attack with the main one.

sometimes it's good to let the opponent take over the castle. he might divide his army into two parts which it would make it easier to beat him.

all in all this first part in series is quite a difficult game. so be sure to save often.
