All I do is download the zip files put them in a folder, dont extract them, open Visual Boy, go to file, open rom, and select one from the folder, that's it. Is this other way that you talk of Anubis better?[/b]

It will be no different in game play, but it makes much easier to organize collection of roms, search for game, see the screen shot, get information about game (battery save, size of games) so this is usefull if you are using flash card.

So all you have to have is one shortcut and all of games will be nicely organized, ready to play by double click of mouse.

There are also other front ends, but this one worked best for me.

* On my laptop I've got Caprice32 for Amstrad games and Gens for Genesis. Also got NESticle for old Nintendo games on my tabletop. Used to have some C64 emulator, but since I never had a Commodore I never got very interested in it. Tried MAME, but I couldn't find any really good games for it, so I gave up.

Years and years ago used to emulate Spectrum Z80 with EmuZ80, but then it got commercial and I didn't feel like registering the thing, and at the time there were no good free alternatives. Had lots of fun with it, though.

With Caprice on the laptop I finally have what I always wanted: a portable Amstrad with an endless supply of games (got like 1300 of them).* A perfect companion in trains, makes the normally frustratingly long trips feel much shorter.*

Caprice32 is best Amstrad emu. Very easy to use, only problem I had is to get started with games, as I never owned Amstard.

If you interested in ZXSpectrum, there is 30 day trial version of nice emulator Spectaculator. I am still using latest version before they got comercial, and all of the games I tried worked.

Mame is great arcade emu, and it might be a bit to hard to find roms after mame.dk was closed.

Took some time find a free Spectruum emulator for Windows, and EmuZWin seems to work ok. It even has this nifty Map Builder option, which should become mandatory for every emulator.

Well I don't really care about screenshots or game game information. Also the way I do it is pretty well organisedjust one folder for the zip files and the save games go into the same folder. Also I'm wondering where you get your ROM's. I get mine from a Japanese site which I can't read. I can only read the name and how big the file is. If you know a site in english with a good selection of game could you PM me the link.

It is most useful if you have a flash card. Also if you (like I) have some kids trying to play their games (not my own kids ).

I emulate anything I can. From ZX Spectrum, C64, Amstrad. Atari (all of them including 2600 and 520ST), Amiga, to different arcade emulations (mame, raine, kawaks, neo rage x…) and not to forget consoles such as SMS, Genesis (mega-drive), SNES, NES...

It is interesting to see same game on different systems.

I know this is stupid, but what do you guys mean by emulate?

i'm thinking you are talking about playing console games on PC's, but I never thought that was possible. How does it work?

hehe, also, How can I do it then!?

Yes,
Emulation is making your computer simulate hardware of another computers or gaming systems.

For example, program called ZSNES simulates Super Nintendo's hardware, so you can load SNES rom (cartridge) and play game made for Super Nintendo on your PC.

There are a lot of advantages in using emulators, such as you can save where and whenever you like (ZSNES supports 10 save states), program emulates a lot of additional hardware, so some games even looks better (but still nothings does not beat real thing) and it supports multiplayer (two PC's over network) for games with two players. Here is tutorial how to use ZSnes.

If there is a system you like more to know about, just let me know.

Thumbs down

Guys...

I know i don't have to say this, but i'll do it anyway..

The second anyone links anything to something that contains a ROM,
this thread will be removed.. The emulations software themselves are NOT illigal (tried in court), but the ROM's themselves are.

Do not post how to find ROMs, nor in any way help ppl finding them..

Be carefull, for all of us.

That's something I posted already.

Links to the roms sites might get this site in to problems. So I will not post any. Also not to mention even if they are posted, these sites got shot down almost every day, so there is no point to post them. (as they become broken links very easy)

But if you don't own SNES or any other console, there are some PD roms which turns to be legal to download and play.

I'm new to the emulator world. I was looking on LimeWire for Broken Sword 1 and was excited about finding what I thought was a pc version, which turned out to be a gba rom. So after a little googling I discovered the exciting world of emulation, downloaded a copy of Virtual Boy Advance and have been enjoying Broken Sword. The music on the Game Boy version is very atmospheric and very well done. The image quality isn't as sharp as I'd hoped (that might be the fault of the conversion, if that's the right word) but it's quite passable. I like how the Virtual Boy Advance works. Very easy.

Oh god. I skipped a few messages and missed the one about not posting sources of roms. Sorry about that!
