I hate to be basic here, Marko River, but I have its CDROM catogarized in "STRATEGY." And I recall that it was the lowest rated Strategy game of all KOEI strategy games. RotTK series was my favorite.

I manage to get to screen where it ask you to select a new game or load exisitng one. However I cant see the mouse cursor. I manage to select one of the option by randomly moving the mouse random and clicking, so the mouse is there, just that the cursor is not being display properly. Would someone be able to help me with this. Thanks.

I also have problems running the game.

Install.com and sound.bat just display tons of XXXXX.
When I launch the Koei.bat the game askes me to press a mouse key and after doing that just blanks the screen and system hangs up.

Help would be greatly appreciated.

This looks like a very intersting game I'd love to play. I can get it to work with DosBox and D-Fend, but is much too slow, my old machine can't cope :not_ok: .
I can start it with VDM Sound k: , and it works really fast, but I have no sound, and it does not detect my mouse. Could anyone give me a few pointers on configuring VDM Sound ? I can't find docs anywhere...
Update : I'm running Windows XP sp 2 on a 700 mhz machine.

Excellent game, but I was wondering if anyone could help me with a graphics prob? the game seems to play for me in a VERY limited colour palette, nothing like the great-looking screenshots on the review page (like its using a different graphics mode or something). Im using VDMsound, is there anyway to fix this?

Download VDMsound. After installing it, right click on the Balor exe. bat. or com file used to start the game and choose, "run with vdmsound". It will operate perfectly with sound the way it was intended.



I used to own this game years upon years ago. I played it off and on for months. Never beat it. I found it challenging, interesting, and unique. You could do a lot worse than play this game. I put it right up there with any Koeii title in that time span. I'm really upset that they went to console. ROTTK series, Ghengis Khan, this one, and the Nobunaga games were all excellent unparrelled genius for its time. The replayability is infinite. Just wish they would have released some tools with the game. Would have been fun to play around and mod it some.

Its a strategy game in its purest form.

Don't know if its been mentioned or not but This game is listed under RPG erroneously. It may at first resemble a sort of role playing but it's definatly a strategy game first. I almost missed it because of the catagory it was under.
