![]() That's only one part of the equation... some games won't run under Windows at all...

![]() But still that does not make CDMSound absolete.
For example Duke Nukem 3D runs nicer with VDMSound. You right, some games will not work, but there is still good use for program. |

![]() I tried out about 30 games in Dosbox and VDMSound, and I can say that generally DosBox works better than VDM with some of the games

![]() Many more games will work on DOSBox, as VDMSound works only with title you were able to play without it, but did not have a sound.

![]() A lot of games work with VDMSound under XP. However, DOSBox does not only emulate sound only. Only the fact that you can set up the speed of the game makes it superior to VDMSound, and it's only one feature among a heap of other...

![]() well, when you have a slow computer, vdmsound is the only way you can run old games at a good speed (i wish that the coders of dosbox would REDUCE THE REQUIREMENTS for a stable speed)

![]() The problem here is emulation. Emulating anything always takes a lot of raw processing power, whatever the kind of emulation. I remember having trouble running SNES emulators with pentium machines when you'd expect an original SNES to have less processing power than a 486...

![]() dosbox isn't very optimized imo. the reason i say that is my experience with dosbox and vmware(which also emulates a pc, like dosbox) and i have found that vmware runs dos AND windows 95/98se a lot faster than dosbox emulates just dos and the virtual hardware in vmware is more powerful than dosbox (dosbox = 486, vmware = pentium + upwards) so its poor optimization thats down to crap performance in dosbox.

![]() vmware doesn't emulate if you the target machine and the host are the same platform.
it virtualizes then. Compare dosbox to bochs if you want a real emulator vs a real emulator. But if you are so unhappy about why not optimize it yourself.
