Triton - get a job. It's the only way to afford this lark without over-indulgient family members.

Warhammer and Dungeons and Dragons are quite expensive, so I don't get to play them. Someone needs to make an economy fantasy game for people like me who don't have parents who buy everything for their kids.
if you like the look of the warhammer universe the warhammer fantasy roleplaying game is actually really cool, though it can seem a bit tricky at first but it only costs the books and some dice and it is really cool as it enables the gm to force players to roleplay braindamage, insanity ect, and the pc setup is also really cool as the charectors progress through different carreers they pick up different skills and it allows people to build some good charectors.

They're not so bad about trying to make you buy 8 million books as AD&D either. There's better roleplaying games out there though - Vampire, (the Faery one - Changeling? - and Mage are good for more advanced players), erm, L5R (the CCG is good too, but players are harder to find than Magic, though possibly less nerdy if you do)

the thing bout the warhammer game tho is you only need one book. the system makes it easy to use easily available army stats to generate npcs. there was a point where the only rpg book i had was warhammer fantasy rpg, but i was able to run a time warp campaighn by borrowing someones 40k and converting the stats. a lot of the other systems force you to buy other books to supplement the rules. warhammer fantasy works great on its own.

There's also Inquisitor, the oft-forgotten RPG. It's pretty good, but I haven't played it much. Space Hulk was great too.

mordhiem is also pretty cool as you dont need thoasands of models to play it. you can make a force from like one plastic regiment (with a bit of customisation)

I started hobby last year bying Battle for the Skull Pass box set. It's warhammer fantasy and comes with enought dwarfs and goblins to have a nice small game.

My goal is to build around 3000pts dwarf army and a matching orcs and goblins army. But considering that they are expensive and I'm currently unemployed, it will have to wait. Not to mention that my wife would say that I should paint the miniatures I have first before buying more
