Been explained before - in fact in the post just above yours. You have put the game into some subdirectory without running the setup program.

Either put it into root of your drive (or CD) or run the game's setup and enter it's current location as the desired target of installation.

i played this when i was really little too! 7 or 8 i think. if you click the yellow book in the room with the globe and the save option menu, it shows you some cheat codes, but you have to "do something funny" in order for the codes to be activated.
does ANYONE know what it is thats funny that you have to do? :wallbash:

Several pre-made saves are included with the game. They give you faster access to the gadgetry and ones labeled with an "X" on the end also give you 1000 credits on the start.

This should be sufficient to get the game completed - mind you, that it's important to try and get a couple "clads" complete as fast as possible - this will give you extra crystals (as many as there were dinos in the clad plus one extra), and if you manage to keep this advantage you won't have to lose credits to get new ones either.

I know very little about computers, so whatever I did wrong, could someone explain it in very simple girl terms?

Unpacked on flash drive, but when I try to open it says

The version of this file is not compatible with the version of windows you are running. Check your computer's information to see whether you need an x86 (32 bit) or x64 (64 bit) version of the program, and then contact the publisher.

I'm running vista, and I tried the compatibility instructions for the hell of it (windows 95, 256 color, 640 x 480) but it was no go.

HELLP

It's a Win3 game.
Your possibilities under Vista64 to run the game:
Dosbox+Win3
VPC2007+Win3
VPC2007+W98(SE)

but.....

That won't be simple to explain.
If you want to play such old Wingames you'd better buy a XP PC.

One possibility is to run the game in dosbox/W3.x
http://vogons.zetafleet.com/viewtopic.php?t=9405
Then you van use the keymapper function to remap the arrow keys.

.... or buy a numeric keypad .....

EDIT: scratch that, it's for windows.

What you probably need to do is set up a virtual machine that can run windows 3.x - or run windows 3.x in Boxer, a Mac adaptation of DOSbox.

Default Tips

I remember playing this back when I was ten on my Macintosh Performa. I still have the CD somewhere. I never could beat it back then. Supposedly it had cheats but I never did find the "do something funny" to get them.

I did finally beat the game when I was 14 and found it rather easy even without using the special saves. Some tips to follow so you don't run out of energy:

Focus on getting the dinosaur you came for and not pictures of other random dinosaurs along the way. You get more for your targets and less for randoms.

Don't overuse radar.

Videos make you more money than pictures but don't record too long or it won't pay for itself.

I think I won my first time mainly taking still pictures of target dinosaurs. I may have had a video or two.
