![]() Wow, that's funny. I was doing a search on Jazz 3D to put up references to do tutoring work on the side.
Yeah, I was the main coder on the Jazz 3D project. Boy does that seem like a while ago. I figure it took nearly a year to get a playable demo running, but as other people have already mentioned we can't release it because naturally it uses the Unreal engine. Well, unless Epic gave us permission to. People at Epic seemed to like the game, especially because it managed to make the engine look cartoony, which they were surprised at seeing. Multiple weapons were selectable, a few enemies in with AI, a few full levels, some of the more difficult movements like ledge grab, etc. And of course Alex made a pile of fun songs that I still listen to now and again. I was especially fond of the ice cannon that would create a huge spiked crystal of ice, trapping enemies inside for a brief time. Very funny. But as you can imagine, companies like GOD were folding at the time and nobody was willing to put forth the cash, basically, to bring it to fruition. A decent chunk of cash, really, to license the engine, market, etc. I remember giving the artists money from my own leftover amounts from Tyrian so they could pay their student loans. So yeah, it's a typical story of developing something on your own and just due to circumstances not having it work out. Makes some sense, anyway, as the PC market never really was big into cartoony action games. Not like consoles. I suppose if we made it a few years later on consoles it would have been received far better. But it wasn't a Quake clone, or Star Trek, or whatnot, so people weren't as interested. Anyway, there you have it, straight from the one who tried to put it together. Heh. Jason Emery Amaze Entertainment << In case you were wondering where I am today. |

![]() Oh yeah, that's right, taunt us by telling us how good the game we can't have is
Any chance you could release some of those songs? They sound good, and I'm sure there's no way theat they could be dependent on the Unreal engine. |

![]() Hmm, it makes me wonder if that's why Epic has given the Unreal engine even up to now a cell-shading ability...
