Maybe because I don't give a sh*t about the "gabber-scene" in Frankfurt or in general? Maybe I'm not even from Frankfurt? Do you know about the "scene" in every major city in your country?

And I didn't "diss" you specifically for Hasselhoff, but for the WHOLE BS that's been going on here...

actually i got a good idea of what music is going on in the major population centers of our fair isle. (i like all music btw not jus tech) im finding the language bites handy, as i am lazy, so i just want a few german phrases. also i have been to evry city in this country and have opinions on all of them. so i kind of expect others to be the same. you clearly have a lot of anger boiling inside yourself.
in the words of saddam hussaine "relax guy. take a nap"

No anger. Rather amusement. But even amusing BS stays BS... :angel:

Certainly. But then again, nobody forced you to read it, right? Much less reply in it...

Try to look at it this way, Chuck: It's impossible to keep up with every single discussion thread anyway, so every thread you can safely ignore is a good thing, actually.

omg, all you need to do is listen :

Hasselhoff is NOT that big in Germany, it's their whole country's running joke. There is a lot of music in Frankfurt, mostly dance, a little rock.

Techno has died out mostly, but there is always gonna be an underground scene. Might get some house/trance still though.

Nosher is not the same one that was in Scraphead Challenge (maybe) so we can safely leave him out (no offence mate) of this civilised discussion about Frankfurt.

There are 3 tenses but like 14 forms of them or something, so don't worry about it. Just call everything 'das'. People might look at you a bit oddly, but they'll get the meaning.

The German police are called the Polizei, they dress in leathers, green or blue? and trousers.

People learn English from when they're 7 years old so they'll probably speak very good English. No worries.

A little German will help, but don't spend ages learning it. If you're smart you'll probably pick quite a bit up when you're there.

If you want a snack, go to an Imbiss which will sell you chips (Pommes), ice cream (Eis - popular!), sausages (Wurste (the U has an umlaut)) and all of that crazy crap, so you should be fine.

Essen = Food
Trinken = Drinks

Ich nehme - I'll have (whatever food)
Was kostet das? - What does that cost?
Danke - Thanks, but they're not that polite usually

Oh by the way, don't be surprised if no-one queues at all. It's a bit mental.

On TV (in a hotel or in a pub I guess) there will probably be some US/UK TV on with subtitles, so if you need a little light relief you should be fine.

So don't worry omg, you should be OK.

When I went to Prague I watched quite a lot of German MTV on the sattelite TV because that was all I could get apart from Eurosport - bizarre mixture of English/American acts and the odd terrible German rap artist thrown in - rap sounds terrible in German (well, it often sounds terrible in English, but you get my point).

you know, i have to agree with chuck the plant. It is amusing to see you showing off with your horrible german. i don't want to sound arrogant (although that is the way i am coming off here), but i don't think that with your german, the frankfurt guys will give you anything more than a laugh. But, at least you have the courage to walk in a bar and make complete fools out of yourselves. And that is what it takes to learn a language just by speaking it. I can't really help you, because i am from berlin and not really a party kind of person, but i guess i could give you some standard sentences.

Guten Tag - good day, hello

Ich hätte gerne ein/zwei/drei Bier - I'd like one/two/three beers

Ich komme aus [insert city here] - I'm from [city]

Ich spreche nicht gut deutsch - I don't speak german very well

I can't help you with party sentences because - well, i'm only 14 - but i hopy these sentences will help you. and, now that i have made fun of all of you, feel free to criticize every little mistake i made in this post. have fun.
