Only seen dawn of the dead remake... It wasn't exactly scary, it was more of a thriller or an action movie... but it had zombies and brains flying so it qualifies as a zombie movie.
Way 2 go, Romero k:

Romero had not much to do with the remake (besides being the creator of the original and therefore paragon). And while the remake was not bad at all, it pales in comparision to the original (and "Night" and "Day" as well).

I'm with Chuck; while the remake of Dawn is pretty good, it's nothing compared to the original (which, incidentally, I voted for). But I must admit that I didn't like Day of the Dead at all. In my opinion Dawn of the Dead was Romero's last good movie.

None mentioned here compare with "I Walked with a Zombie (1943) or even "White Zombie (1932)".
Because there are no "we've come back from the dead to eat your flesh"-zombies in them... which are the ones we are talking about here.

We didn't seem to have that limitation, it just looks like the topic creator put them in the poll.

It's "Zombie" movies, so I assume that anything with zombies in it is a zombie movie.

I'd say the limitation is obvious when looking at the movies up to vote.

"Real" Voodoo-Zombies and flesh-eating undead aren't the same thing, for the "genre-specifications" are totally different. The "Romero-like Zombie"-films are a subgenre of their own in any regard, and neither "White Zombie" nor "I walked with a Zombie" really abide to the same "rules". Not even "Carnival of souls" does.

@ flop: Maybe give it a few more tries, I also thought it to be the weakest part of the series for a long time (that was before "Land", obviously ), but it grew more and more on me over the time and today I like it even better than "Dawn" for the most part... too bad I was still thinking it was missing from the poll when I voted

I actually enjoyed the "concious zombie" in Day Of The Dead, Bubs was his name or something? It didn't actually seem to give him a "Soul" as other human beings seem to have possesed in the movie, but it really made the connection that zombies were actually people once before.

Many others don't seem to like that aspect though, but at least it didn't go as far as Land. Although I found Land quite enjoyable (fun to watch) the acting was poor, dialouge was laughable at times, and the plot was just plain wacky. Otherwise, it was quite a fun ride.

I'm so glad that AoD has almost the same votes as Shaun, Shaun was good, but I just like Bruce Campbell and campy humor, LOL.

Just out of curiousity, but why is Evil Dead 2 rated R? Is it for gore like the hand scene, or is it language, or more scenes like the...vine....scene... I plan on seeing that one, more of a comedy, which is Bruce's specialty...LOL plus, Sam Raimi=Spiderman!!!=AWESOME!

Er, Evil Dead 2 doesn't have the vine scene.
Despite what many think, it's not a remake, and it's supposed to be funny.
It's mostly rated R for gore, language, and a few sexual themes (so says IMDB) but I own the unrated version, so I wouldn't be able to tell you exactly.

Watch the clock in the movie, it serves as the gauge for evil. When evil is in control, the clock stops and begins to moves backwards. That's why the night seems to last forever.

A glove belonging to Freddy Krueger can be seen hanging near the steps in one of the cellar scenes. This was done reciprocally, in response to Wes Craven’s having used "Evil Dead" on the TV screen in "Nightmare on Elm Street."

Evil Dead is NC-17???
Quote:
Rated NC-17 for substantial graphic horror violence and gore.
Huh...

No, it has been discussed several times, and Evil Dead is not NC-17, it is unrated period.
Don't believe any other sources, it was unrated in theatres, and it's unrated in any format you can find it.
The remake is kinda old news now.
