civcheat.com file completely changes the civ.exe file i believe. to restore it, delete the civ.exe file and rename the original.exe file to civ.exe. I'm not sure whether just using original.exe directly w/o touching civ.exe works or not, but it should.
thanks for the hint!

the best of this version is this original exe
it's version 474.01
that very rare ...

versio 474.01 is the only one were you can access the developer cheat also known as "SHIFT-56" (infact it's pressing
" % "
" ^ "
" t "
" t "

were it is located depending on your keyboard language.

this cheat allows to see the whole map when starting the game
and MORE:

Code:
F 1 * * Your enemies' military plans
 * * * *(A-Attack, D-Defend, S-Settle, N-Naval).
 * * * *It will even suggest some plans for you sometimes.
F 2 * * ???
F 3 *The Games Graphics (ALL actual screens!!!)
F 4 *??? Opponent Screens (be careful!)
F 5 *??? Opponent Screens (be careful!)
F 6 *??? Opponent Screens (be careful!)
F 7 *Civilization breakdown showing government type,
 * * * *diplomatic status, population, treasury, tax rate,
 * * * *# of mil units, # of cities, # of settlers,
 * * * *amount of land (units unknown), and technology.
F 8 *Civilization PowerGraph + Replay.
 * * * *Even if you don't want to cheat this is handy.
 * * * *It can show you how well you're doing.
F 9 *shows numbers representing the attack points,
 * * * *defense points and 3 of the cities
 * * * *the computer uses to calculate battle,
 * * * *on each continent (along with giving
 * * * *the size of each continent in land squares).
 * * * *
F10 *Shows complete world map
good civ1 discussion here -****

been moved (or in the case of roads/railroads where you wish to use
said road r, before) click onto the settlers again, and hit 'r' or 'i' (irrigate) or 'p' (cleanup pollution) again.
Repeat as many times as necessary for said operation on square (the
computer will not let the settlers do anything else once one improvement
has been completed)
The way I see this, it is both a bug and a cheat. Not something I would do.
if you are playing the game you use this cheat automatically -
it works with every civ1 version so you have no chance not to cheat.

otherwise you will have to wait ages within the game until you can irrigate swamps for example.
with this cheat it makes sense to play empereor level. :brain:

great!

i hope it's online here in a while.

but CiV DOS (already here)
http://www.abandonia.com/games/14/Civilization_1.htm
is the ORiGiNAL
- i know that millions of people did play CiV DOS
and even at civilization.1 forums
just a few who did play WinCiv
http://forums.civfanatics.com/forumdisplay.php?f=16

if you have problems playing it with winXP
try
DOSBox
http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/

1. The 'original' archgame-of-strategy CiV.1 for DOS
(~1991) (5 different exe - versions 474.01 ... 05)

2. Civilization for Windows (developed for windows 3.11)
(aka "CivWin" & "Civ4Win" & "WinCiv" - some different versions - 1.1. and so on)

3. CivNet (~1993)
( created for windows 3.11 / win'95 - 16bit; some version updates )
(Internet & LAN Multiplayer possible (...up to 8 players at once)

It's only original games, remember? And unless I interpret that '' smiley wrong, "Guest" didn't actually buy the game...
