I'm having a weird problem. At first I was having the "Unexpected error" problem from earlier in the thread, but got that fixed thanks to the advice already given. Now I can create and save characters, but can't add them to my party or start the adventure.

What folder should the character files be saved in? They're going directly into my c:\cok folder, but a new folder called c:\cok\co was created when I saved my first character. Tried moving the files manually into that folder but it didn't help.

what does it say or what happens when you try to add them into your party or start adventure?

btw characters are stored in the [game directory]\SAVE but that shouldn't bother you. you just edit that KRYNN.CFG file and change the patch to the game (have in mind that this needs to be a virtual directory, which you mount in dosbox), the game will do the rest

Help! I played the heck out of Dark Queen when I was a teenager and now I'm trying to play the trilogy, starting natch with Champions. But I'm experiencing the same "unexpected error 3hali" issue! I know nothing about dos or code, but I've followed the instructions here as best I could with no results!

My game is in C:\krynn\cok

The config file reads "C:\krynn\cok\SAVE"

I cannot save a created character, so I can't even play the game..

If you mount c:\krynn\cok as virtual C then this

is completely wrong, as de facto your path in dosbox is c:\save, NOT C:\krynn\cok\SAVE .....

My advise:
Create a C:\oldgames\ whilst in windows, drag/drop your \krynn\cok\ in it so you get in windows:
c:\oldgames\krynn\cok\
Now run dosbox and input:
mount c c:\oldgames
c:
cd krynn
cd cok
start


That should sort things out.

Remark: *should* because in fact in Vista you would be better off using a \oldgames\ folder in your personal folders as virtual C: , if dosbox will be able to save your game will depend of the write permissions dosbox has on your C:\root ..... it certainly has the permissions in your personal folders.
