![]() Tom Henrik's review of Final Fighter:
* * * * * Final Fighter is a simple yet fun nobrainer. You take control of a tank and your mission is to kill all the other tanks. The game is basically Quake III: Arena with tanks. Final Fighter can be played in two modes; Singleplayer and Multiplayer. Singleplayer<sp> is fun, but it can't compete with the thrill of going online and battling against your own<del> friends. The game available for download here is the beginner'<ap>s package. It contains 19 different tanks, but only 1 level. (You can download more levels and tank skins from the net). ... * * * * * Could we include an URL in the last sentence in case anyone wants to d/l those extras? |

![]() Checkbox G & The Fifth Horseman's review of Flashback:
* * * * * "Flashback" definitely is<"would definitely have" or "is definitely" - the latter implies that such a section is actually to be created, however.> to be put in the "Ahead of its<sp> Time<caps>" section. It "feels"<don't need the quotes> a lot like Prince of Persia or Black Thorne<this game's listed on the site as one word, but it is very ambiguous>, however<"but"> one thing makes it different: the animation. I have always had special feelings for well animated games,<comma> :-). And<"and"> there are tons of animations here. Low resolution, of course, but sometimes suprisingly smooth. The levels look pretty good also (not excelent though), especially "The Jungle" (screenshot 1). When I first saw this game on<sp> my old frend's brand new PC (it was a 386 I think) I was so jealous<sp> knowing there was no way this game would run on my computer,<comma> equipped as it was with EGA graphics. Well... enough frustrating memories for now. There are only 7 levels but several animations between them to support the storyline. Gameplay is nothing spectacular, but navigation is easy to get used to. Some will appreciate the way your character<spx2> moves: smooth - smoother than Prince for example. The bad thing is:<" that"l> you always carry the same pistol - no interesting weapons around. All in all -<del> this is an average game in its<sp> "brand"<"genre" - again the quotes aren't needed.>, but I must say: Highly recommended<"can still highly recommend it">. At least try it and watch the intro! * * * * * |

![]() awww, thankee fellas. I'm reviewing Populous 2 this week as well, assuming I remember to keep doing it
Hopefully Seb won't be upset and change his mind if I correct his Ghostbusters 2 review (there's not a lot wrong with it though: * * * * * I really enjoyed reviewing this game since I'm a big Ghostbusters fan -<saves closing the bracket> which you can also tell from my avatar in the forum ;-). There are actually two games with the exact same title, of which this one you might call<"; you might call this one"> the secret alternative. Even most of the<del> Ghostbusters fans ... ... deity Gozer, (and blew up a 30 stories high<"tall"> Stay-Puff<i think that's what it was called> Marshmallow Man), an ex-girlfriend of one of the '<ap>Busters is returning home with her baby. But the wheel of the baby-carriage gets dipped in some pink slime and it starts driving on its own. Dana (the girl) decides to call on her friend, the Ghostbuster, to find out what happened, after which they decide to dig a huge hole in the middle of the road. What they discover is an underground river of Slime, but at the same time they knock out the electricity in the entire Manhattan area... thus they are<"and are" - like in The Incredibles ... classic Ghostbusters (for C64) from 1984,<comma? –<del> money IS an issue. You start with a $10.000<sp> debt. To make money you must answer the phone and… (surprise, surprise) bust ghosts. You must also collect some slime and test it, because this slime will come<"be"> really useful. If you’ve seen the movie you know that this is good-mood slime and it gives the Statue of Liberty a<del> get-up-and-go because it<"she"> really loves Jackie’s:<del> (Your Love’s Lifting Me) Higher and Higher!<caps and italics make it clearer> But be careful!<just one exclamation needed> If you fail to bust a ghost or get trapped in the river of slime, you’ll end up in the nuthouse<one word>, and the rest of the team will have to bust you out (this part of the game is really the most original, because it’s quite different from the movie)! So, can you stop the Scorge of Karpathia, the Sorrow of Moldavia – Lord VIGO?! * * * * * |

EDIT: OK, I changed most of the things, but some would change the meaning. With she I guess you wanted to refer to the Statue (Lady Liberty), but it was refering to the slime. |

I bet that's the only reason he has been doing this. <!--QuoteBegin-Beef on the Bone again, since they aren't my reviews and since there are a great many of them I intend only to correct the technical mistakes and the odd sentence here and there, rather than making more significant changes. Feel free to post your own alternative reviews to games in their discussion threads if you feel the current ones aren't up to scratch - or volunteer to review things yourself if you fancy being the "official" reviewer.
It is quite apparent that a good number of reviews here are not "up to scratch." Do take into consideration that it was I who proposed the idea of a group of grammar correctors fixing the reviews. Compare our motives: my tenure as a reviewer for abandonia.com was meant to submit reviews for games for the sake of reviewing them, and my proposition of grammar editors was to fix the outstanding problems on reviews on this site. I did my work for the sheer pleasure of writing, not for attention or special favors. I could have had VIP status the last time people were upgraded to VIP, but I wasn't interested in it. If I wanted it bad enough, I would have kissed behind in the forums. I'm sure that if there wasn't the prospect of a reward hanging over your head, you wouldn't waste your time fixing reviews. |

![]() BeefontheBone, you've been quite prolific while I've been offline! Impressive!
If this Grammar Squad idea does in fact come to pass, I would suggest that either the edits be done via PM or that a forum be established for that purpose. This thread has become large and rather chaotic! Some sort of process should be put into place for reviewers to submit reviews for editing (those that wish to have their reviews edited, anyway). A list can be drawn up indicating which reviews are being edited at any given time, much like the list of games currently being reviewed. That way we won't end up with six different versions of each review. I don't know the best way to go about this; I'm just brainstorming.

![]() you have a point there - i got a PM from kosta today about some sort of closed forum area. i think rather than having everyone look over the whole of a review, it'd be faster and much more efficient if we divided up the (remaining) reviews between those who are helping (4 or 5 people would be plenty methinks) probably alphabetically, and then we can quickly double check them later. the thread is a bit enormous now I admit.
seb: you're correct, i thought you meant the statue. maybe change it to make it clear you're talking about the slime. oooh spooky, the statue's on the telly right now. einherjar: that's a very cynical and slightly depressing attitude you got there, mate. i don't see this as a waste of my time (it's only time i would be spending on non-productive activities otherwise, and it's quite easy to do it with the TV or some music on) and it's quite nice to see the reviews scanning so much better than before. |

It's so wierd how your actions and words can be distorted in such a way that they become negative.I support this, even if it is only for VIP, which i really doubt. As long as he's helping the site, what do we care?!Whether he does it because he loves this site, or because he seeks the riches of the VIP section, it 's not important. It's important that he's contribuiting, and he's contribuiting a lot!! |
