it says can't save
its in C:/cok

what do i need to do to get it to work?

Nice to see you have fond memories of the game. Don't worry about donations - they're completely volentary and if you feel like contributing anything (every little amount would be much apreachiated). No matter what the world is like today, we're not into it for the money k:

I'll share a little story. I grew up in the 80's learning D&D from little things like the cartoon show and playing it in the woods with a couple of friends where we'd play a character and do a pretend swing and roll for damage. I never knew what I was doing but i was having fun and i love the imagination of the D&D setting. I never knew much more then except looking at covers of D&D books and seeing people in the woods with dragons and monsters of all kinds around locked in combat or about to engage in it. I imagined what it would be like to be in their shoes and wondered if they were about to die.


One day in high school my friend had on his shelf Champions of Krynn and I didn't know the difference then between FRealms and Dragonlance but i was excited. I borrowed it from him for a while and played and i had no idea the difference between 1d8 and 2d4 until he started teaching me.

I installed it on C drive and it ran way too fast and it didn't allow me to save. My next step was to edit the .cfg file and this got the saving of characters to work. Of course the game was operating waaaaaaay too fast on my computer and I still had no sound and in my first combat I died without knowing what the hell hit me cause it happened so fast.

So I took someones advice here and got myself DOS box. Beautiful program, works fantasic. So now the sound is absolutley perfect, the game speed is perfect as well and it even looks a little crisper. The only problem I have now is it won't bloody save again :wallbash:

i get the error Hali thing. Can anyone help? I'm having my friend look at it soon but i dunno if he can fix it.

me again :-) okay i got it past the error stage its saving the characters but when i select Add character it just does nothing. I just click and nothing happens

Edit the config again to correspond to the game's location on Dosbox' C: mount.

well thanks its working great now. Using Dosbox .65 Everything is working well save screen size. Its 1/5 my full screen size. If I hit Alt+Enter it gets bigger but is misaligned and flickers. So I'm not sure what else I can do.

And holy hell is it hard.
My party is:
human knight str 17
dwarf ranger 18/26 with 19 con
fighter/red mage q elf
white mage Q elf
kender cleric/thief


i wanted more of a challenge so i am playing a party without wildly high all around stats. I lost half my party in throtl. And fighting that level 7 soldier in there, well he wouldnt fall prey to sleep spells so I can't beat him yet. Maybe I need to level up once more.

Open dosbox.conf. Change the following lines:
fullscreen=false --> fullscreen=true
fullresolution=something --> fullresolution=640x480 OR fullresolution=1024x768

The first will make DosBox start up in fullscreen mode, the other will make it display at a fixed resolution (which tends to help in some cases).

thanks horseman, i got to say that worked like a charm. I just finished beating Champions of Krynn when I read this but it should come in handy for Death Knights

The party I used turned out to work pretty good. Its frustrating at low levels though cause I miss a lot and dragons just stomp ya into the ground with their breath weapons. i had no protection against lightning for the blues but the reds were not so bad cause I had resist fire.

Now with paladins in death knights I'm trying to think up how I'll revamp my party. I need to read the journey and find out how Dragonlance has differences between paladins and knights. I'm thinking of a paladin and a knight and maybe keep my kender cleric/thief if the cleric part isn't limited. I want a that won't get stopped by level limitations. Last time in Dark Queen that meant a lot of single classes and before that I just went with a lot of elves but they were limited as fighters. I'd like a red or white mage maybe both I dunno yet. Maybe a cleric/mage and a single class mage. Any suggestions?

Death Knights was my favorite of the series. Darker music, theme, slight enhancements and more sub-quests and monsters and the party was better ready for monsters. I liked the story better to. Dark queen looks a little nicer with graphics and sound in some cases but more linear i found and very little in the way of maps which I found frustrating. I never did beat dark queen but i hope to this year.

Here are some of the words some players will need to know to get past the parts where it asks you to save when your encamping. I don't have the rule book, i found these out by guessing= a little logic.

The problem is that the cfg-file cannot find the save directory. Make sure, that the programm und the cfg-file fit together. If you use the DOS-Box, be sure to think of the directory where your game is an a kind of root.

If I understand you, you mean that when a directory is mounted in Dosbox, paths to the game directories under it must be also accordingly adjusted. That is indeed true.

If you mount C:\dos\games\ as your C: drive in DosBox, a reference to C:\dos\games\krynn\cok\ should be replaced with one to C:\krynn\cok\.
