DonCorleone Maybe an older version of DosBox will do the trick... Though, I'm using version 0.72 on vista without any problem. Haven't managed to check UFO. But I'm pretty sure it works just fine. Strange problem...

Ok, I tried all three with those settings and still nothing... Any other ideas?
Sounds like a very strange error indeed. I'm playing the game "flawless" on vista as we speak. Just downloaded it (DOS version) extracted to (a directory of your choice) UFO and started the game by running ufocd.bat on dosbox. Game works like a charm, no need for any setup concerning sound.

dosraider I honnestly see no reason to dual boot Vista-XP for a dosgame.
Dosbox 0.72 works perfect in Vista (32-64bit).

_r.u.s.s. btw: vista detects that there is presence of any other OS than vista (and it checks bios too), but i dont know the consequences

Mighty Midget If it's your main computer and it can handle Vista, I'd say set up both Vista and XP.

Scatty As short as this advise might appear, I generally would suggest the same. While you still have good chances to get old Dos games to run in Windows XP, Windows Vista is much worse in these ways which is why you probably would like to consider to install Windows XP on your computer instead of Vista.

You can't, neither supposed to run the game from the dos4gw file, because it's used to enable protected mode memory for the game and is used automatically. You need to start the game with another .exe file in that folder.
As about the sound, try Soundblaster, Soundblaster Pro or Soundblaster 16 whichever is available in the configuration program, each other better than previous. Try the following values - Port 220, IRQ 7, DMA 1. If still no sound, try IRQ 5 instead.

Eagle of Fire If you're using the DOS version from this site, you'll need to set the sound up using setup.exe first.
