I once started to date my (back then) best (girl)friend. I thought at the beginning that it might not be a good idea because you can loose the friendship etc. But just do what you think is best. Besides, if the relationship ends and you loose the friendship it doesn't feel that bad as you thought at the beginning.
We still speak occasionally btw.
But having a friendship where one of the 2 feels more it isn't that healthy either.
