I think using other samples and plug-ins than fl studio's standard ones do change a lot. In fact there are some very good plug-ins that can produce nice sounds (much better than fl studio's standard vst plug-ins).
Like:

String Theory (freeware)
Vanguard
They are really worth buying if you really want to use fl studio more!
