I bought this and played it on an IBM PCjr back in the day. The shuttle is destroyed and stays that way.
Some of the planets are sort of interesting, and you have to do stuff like wear the correct outfit for the environment. But planets like Orta are just a big expanse of nothingness except for very small areas.
One interesting thing to do is to tell everyone to fan out. This causes your away team to explore the surface, even though they don't really fan out since they tend to stay together in one big herd.
You can also go to the transporter room and try to beam up things. It's especially funny if you beam up characters you haven't even met yet (but have in previous games). They appear and then disappear a second later.
For all the hours I played this game, I never managed to beat it although I'm somewhat certain I knew the technique to do it. Most puzzles I never managed to finish due to the sheer immensity of some planets. For instance, Spock gets kidnapped at one point and although I could get him to tell me where he was and describe his surroundings, I could never manage to free him.
You can also teleport into walls and die. You can shoot a vial of antimatter found in engineering and blow yourself to pieces. It's a pretty fun game.
