Actually, a to's far from nearly the same as a katana. Katanas are made of high-quality steel, while tos're made of lesser value, making them more prone to break. Katanas're allowed to shine, while tos'd make it hard for a ninja to go unseen if his sword'd shine, so they made it so it doesn't shine. I can't agree, i used both and they can be used in "quite the same way"!
You have to choose a katana or a to, just according to your character, but you will use them in the same way...
Original japanese katanas are little, cause japaneses are actually little! And about the steel... you can make a sword with the iron that you want (if you can afford it), don't you?
About the shining... well i just talked about the "handling" and not about what is better to use in a secret killing mission...

If you know anything about history you know that To swords are MUCH smaller than a katana.
