... the OED didn't have 'chuddy' down as Australian slang for chewing gum.

Edit: Oh, the quote they've got is rather fitting, actually: Maori Girl II. xiii. 152 ‘Better have some chuddy,’ said Tom.

There wouldn't be quite so many weird Australian slang words if...
