Incidentally, what's the definition of a git?

It's very vague, actually. The OED has "In contemptuous use: a worthless person" and the Concise Oxford Dictionary has "Brit. informal an unpleasant or contemptible person."
The ethymology of the word is really interesting: the spelling "git" seems to be fairly recent, but the variation "get" reaches back to the early 16th century. The definition of "get" is given as "orig. Sc. and north. In contemptuous use = brat. Also spec. a bastard; hence as a general term of abuse: a fool, idiot."
But as far as I know, the word is only used with reference to males. Sort of like the counterpart to "bitch", I suppose.
@SupSuper: You could start small by mashing potatoes and then move on to watches and average-sized electronic equipment.
