Just for the record, I don't care if it was setting up a sequel, Soul Reaver's ending was terrible, there's no reason for anyone to go through such a immersive game, and fun to boot, only to be dissapointed that all their efforts and enjoyment ended up in a ending "Oh, I'm going to run away from you, and you'll have to fight me sometime later."
Probably worse than Half-Life's ending.

yeah i agree. i choose to just forget about the ending of soul reaver, its almost as if the suckage of soul reaver 2 somehow leaked back through time into the end of soul reaver 1!
