As mentioned two times already, in S2 you can't control your settlers directly. So what is the point of 3D for that then? Absolutly none.

The 3D is simply for eye-candy I guess.
Lots of gamers today can't stand "cheap" 2D-Games. The game will sell much better if it has nifty 3D-graphics.
