* I didn't mention it, but yes I had the PB installed. Didn't do squat.
i don't know how. maybe you had too much of the shields. 1 MW can not penetrate them! not on the big large ships. do you have auto repair hull unit installed? you also need to have a lot of shields. i dont' know how many exactly but i think about 250t of shields. this is the strange part of this game

is that even possible? you need it to maybe do assasinations?? because i do them by just waiting for the right time to pass.

As for combat, I'm still a terrible fighter pilot. Used this 'auto-target enemy, engage auto pilot and fight the most riddicilous dogfight in history. Remarkable effective in FE2, but it didn't do the trick in this one. Thank heavens for that . I'm looking for a good method for deep space combat as well as for low altitude combat. Right now I'm going for the gung-ho approach, heavy prayers and reloads.
yeah that seems to be the way to start. however, i should mention that problmes with combatting are the following:

1. large ships are EXTREMELY sluggish. they just can't accelerate fast enough to make an efficient turn. So i didn't really see any other way except for using the shields and turrets to fight the badguys. in a way it's logical

2. the problem is that when you wake up from the sleep (attack in deep space after you accelerated time) they are already in perfect position while you are not. So the first things to do (and you can do it only with light, fast fighters) is to punch the afterburners and flee in another direction. once you stabilise speed it won't be such a problme to do the dog fight. it will be much easier, much like it would look like on earth. except oyu dont' have the graity. perhaps for elarning it is good to play Wing Commander remake (a somewhat similar game to elite only better graphics and not so complicated flight model). it's a freeware. anyway most combats there are being done similar and you can learn various techniques there for fighters like approach, dodge etc.

One thing i should also mention is the problem i think the imperial trader has. i am actually not sure about the name but the biggest ship available! the ship has two mayor problems. it seems they didnt' pay enough attention to models. so when you use the upper turret you might shoot your own ship while you are trying to fire backwards.
another problem this ship has is landing on some planets. althought this might done be intentional. due to it's low thrust capability you will maybe be able to land on planets with higher gravity but you won't be avble to launch form them. Also the ship won't fit in small stations.

ANother problem is with one of the clippers. one of my favourite ships (panther clipper) can't shoot missiles, because all the missiles smash into the ship instead of flying out.
