basically, college level courses that you can take in Highschool. You prepare all year for the AP test, and depending on the score you get, you can receive college credit for the class, so you don't have to take it in university.
For instance, last year I took the AP Music Theory test and the highest possible score. Because of this, I have completely tested out of Music Theory 1, Dictation 1, Sight Singing 1, and Counter Point that I would have had to take next year in college.
And they are weighted classes, so they are worth an extra point towards your GPA (an A=5 instead of 4)
