Question - why does battle.net not work for me, when it works flawless for you? Maybe you could try and help me solve that...

Mh... Iīll try to help you.
A description of what I did to get the game to work:
I installed the game with my admin-account and play it with my admin account. I didnīt install the patch manuelly; I let the auto-patcher do the work for me. After that I did a restart and allowed the game to pass the Windows-firewall. After that I had no problems to connect with the battle.net (gateway Europe).
That was all. I had no problems and I didnīt have to use a special trick.
It could be helpfull, if you post the text of the error-message you get, when you try to connect.
It could also be, that the server list has changed / has an error / is damaged. In that case the game (obviously) can not connect whatever you try. Here is a link to a Blizzard Support Page, that deals with this kind of problem.
Look! A link! :P
Started playing Diablo 1 again: I have to say, itīs much more difficult than Diablo 2. Many things are different.

Now it says:
"Unable to connect to battle.net. If you're using a modem to connect, then you must not be configured for Dial Up networking and have to establish the connection manually."
A while ago, it said this:
