BREAKTHROUGH
i finally have blood running 100% perfectly on XP!
having the retail cd and cd music is the final icing... it just seems to eat far too much cpu to get MIDI to work. like i mentioned above, the cd tracks are much better music than midi. as you would expect.
vdmsound - soundblaster (and more) emulator for xp. much tweaking of settings
nolfb.com - hack from ken silverman to make the vesa modes not crash
cli2nop - stripped the undocumented weird calls from the blood.exe (interestingly, turn off the thing in vdmsound which is meant to do the same thing)
dos32a - open source dos extender replacement. much faster
added buffers=80 and files=80 to everything in sight, including config.nt (this may or may not be necessary, i didnt test if it made any difference - if it aint broke dont fix it)
i expect ill make a little webpage soon with everything listed and all the settings etc
