Did you max out Bone Wall, Teeth and Bone Spirit as the synergies for Bone Spear? If you want a good damage in Bone Spear you'll have to skill at least those three synergies, and spend the rest of the points into Bone Prison as the fourth synergy along the coming levels. If you didn't skill it like that, and don't have many items that give +to all skills, and no skillers, your damage won't be that high.
Can't expect a Nec who tries both bone skills, some summoning skills, and melee attacking to be even close as strong as a pure p/b nec (won't get me on that anymore, Piggy). For a good start, you would be well advised to give up your attempt of a melee necro and get a White runeword in a wand. That will give you already a large bonus in damage to Bone Spear. And maybe you'll need to start a new nec and skill him more correctly, if you want really good Bone Spear / Bone Spirit damage. Bone Spear is stronger on long term, though, with all the synergies for it.
P.S. I would take Harle if I was you, Andy looks first of all ugly on Necromancer, and second your mercenary would be much better suited with it than you. He is meant (except the one in act 3) to attack while you as a nec are meant to cast as the most effective combination.

Omfg :tai: . Dude, I already use: White, Homunculus, Bone - for the skills (the Harlequin will be next).
My skill pts are as:
Teeth: lvl27 (not maxed yet)
BSpear: lvl32 (maxed)
BSpirit: lvl30 (maxed)
BWall: lvl11 (not maxed yet)
I should get atleast 3K with this, but it only gives me 1.5K with Bspirit. Furthermore, I am not melee anymore. It was until I got better spells, althought I'm good at that already too.
I can put the next point into BPrison, and it will turn into lvl11 as BWall, because of all the +skills stuff (done now). EDIT: firgured out that the +skillpts from items don't boost as synergies to skills
. Damn, it should be like that, but it isn't. Crap.
I can do anything with my kind of necro, but now I specialize in Bone skills and Clay Golem. I will rock, when I get some double power from Bone Spear with my build. BTW, anyone who says that Necro hasn't got protection and is weak - is a fool. Casting a few bone walls, makes him an unreachable target.

BTW, found my first Terror Key! YAY! :brain: Now have 3 TKey's.
