Also, punk is not a style of music, it's an attitude towards creating and playing. So you can say that some of the "old school"-ers were punks. Another thing is that many "punk" bands started because they wanted back the 50's and 60' music that died in the 70's.

but there were some early r'n'r acts that didn't have the boogie woogie bass or twangy solo guitar for that matter. R'n'R is more, to me anyway, about chords, chord progression and themes for lyrics (baby, baby, yeah, yeah, yeah! LOL ). In this sence AC/DC, Motorhead and the Ramones are pure r'n'r.
