Well... let's make a quick walkthrough...
1) Run Stunt.com (DOS, Windows 9X or DOSBOX recommended). or Stunts_k.exe for BB1.1 version
2) When the program asks you to enter some word, just press Enter.
3) When "Fasten your seatbelt!" appears, it's good, you are clear to start - just press the acceleration button. You even don't have to wait so long, you may go immediately the game screen is loaded (that animation will be skipped).
4) In-game controls are:
arrows: accelerate, brake, left, right.
A, Z: shifting (only with gearbox set to Manual instead of Auto in Car menu) or Space (gear up) and Enter (gear down) for PC esc: pauses the racing and summons some menu
F1: cockpit view
F2: helicopter view
F3: camera-somewhere-around-the-car view
F4: camera is watching the car from some fixed place on the ground (not good for driving :-) )
5) Editor controls are:
space: jump between editing window and menu
shift+F1: landscape editing tools appear
arrows, enter: the rest :-)
Some tips for playing:
- Indy is the best car, then jaguar and then Porsche 962. The slower cars sometimes can't gather enough speed to jump over anything. BTW., do the slower cars have any specialty they would be worth driving for? I don't know. Sure, some of them have a "powergear" that allow you to drive on the grass without loosing speed, like with the indy. NSX or ZR1 for example have this feature, which is a game bug originally. "Powergear" speed may be 245 (like for the indy) or slower (203 mph for NSX for example)
- Opponents are quite dumb, even the best one of them (Skid Vicious) can be beaten in much slower car (try it ;-) ).
- While driving some extra long tracks, a message "replay buffer is full" appears. Ignore that, the only problem you get is that you won't be able to see replay later. Once a replay is mlonger than 10 minutes, this problem appear.
- Bumping the fence all around the track doesn't hurt you.
- When you are driving at top speed (fastest gear stage, engine cannot go faster) and go on the slope up (bridge, banked corner etc.), you will reach some kind of warp speed - engine roars very high, everything runs behind you very fast and the grass doesn't slow you down (!) That's the "powergear". When you make a drift (it's quite easy now), you will shoot away in full speed at the moment you stop drifting. However, steering is practically impossible and you can encounter some very strange physical phenomena during jumps or along the fence - it is very easy to take off and fly almost a kilometer high. And to fall down then, of course :-). All cars don't have powergear. Indy has the easiest handling of powergear, as you can keep powergear speed during turns. All other powergear cars loose powergear when you turn too sharply.
- Sometimes when you turn you car wheels up, the steering stil works. But after few seconds you crash anyway.
- Those concrete blocks on the road can be avoided by driving precisely at the centre of the road. Then you don't need to steer left or right, just go forward. Maybe some cars are a bit wider, but Indy can do this. All cars can do this. Sometimes, you can even go THROUGH a concrete block when driving exactly right (no turn move) at high but not highest speed. It's a very lucky trick.
- The grass along double curves (2x2 squares) doesn't slow you, so you needn't to follow the road precisely.
- There's a demo that appears after some time in main menu. It is a replay loaded from file (I think) Default.rpl. It's quite funny to replace this file with some awful stunts (e.g. ignoring the gravity at top speed), the text "proffesional driver on closed circuit" looks a little odd then ;-).
Stunts is one of my favourite games... if it only had a multiplayer (splitscreen), it would be absolutely perfect. Now it is only GREAT :-D
Enjoy.
