An X-Com movie might not work out to well, but the one of the few problems with the X-Com TV series was that it came out nearly twenty years before the game. It also had the wrong name, just UFO. It was produced by Gerry and Sylvia Anderson (the couple that brought the world Supermarionation). The general plot was that aliens were coming to earth and stealing people for organ transplants (they were only alien in outlook and motivation). A secretive organization (SHADO) attempted to interfere with the alien machinations by intercepting UFO's, and investigating the wreckage. It even had something that could be construed as a TFTD tie-in, as there were interceptors that launched from submerged subs.

The series was enough of a success to have a line of now-very-collectable toys that were even cooler than the Captain Scarlet stuff
