Do you get a particular error, such as codec not found? Or is the file playing but no sound coming out?
Edit: You might want to check Control Panel > Sound and Audio Devices -> Audio (tab) -> MIDI Music Playback (Section on that tab) and see which device is being used for playback. There might be multiple listed. Try a different one to see if that works
