Great! We'd appreciate details on your hardware, because sure DOS can be satisfactorily run in pretty not-so-old machines (I did it on a Pentium III), but sure there must be a limit somewhere, concerning every piece of hardware (sound, video, processor), and I'm afraid nobody's certain of where those are. Of course first and foremost there's the question whether your sound card supports SB16 emulation (or whether you've got a real SB16 or older of course), because as far as I know there's no other way to get sound.
PS: Anyway DOSBox is more compatible than any real DOS machine, so if you've got a powerful modern machine, real DOS is just for geekism sake
