That sounds like Laser Tank, but you were not the ball.
Few weeks ago my friend showed me the game for PC that is remake of Amiga game. Only now it is modern, with good graphics, physics and 3D. Could be that one, but I can't remember the game, but I can ask him. You are the ball and you can change into paper ball, wooden ball and iron ball. Is that what you meant?
